Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®)

The Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®) are an established standard in institutional asset management to calculate and present a provider's performance across all investments with comparable investment strategies ("composites"). Asset managers use them mainly for institutional client acquisition. Consultants also use the GIPS standards to select asset managers on behalf of investors. They supplement the legal rules on the performance presentation of individual products - in the EU, for example, these are the guidelines for performance presentation of products for private investors (e.g. UCITS KIIDs and information documents for packaged investment products (PRIIPs), such as unit-linked pension insurance).

In Germany, the German Asset Management Standards Committee (GAMSC), which is formed by BVI and CFA Society Germany, is the recognised GIPS sponsor and is responsible for their promotion. In addition, it prepares joint statements and participates in the committee work of the GIPS organisation.
